The Intersection of Personal Growth and Professional Development

I have been an OT since 2016 and have spent most of my clinical practice in the adult acute care setting. I spent two years in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in a rural critical access hospital before returning to Colorado to work at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. I was in a leadership position within the therapy department during the bulk of my five years at Swedish. My time at Swedish highlighted my interest in professional development; during this period, I attended a yearlong leadership course created by HCA and completed leadership courses supported by AOTA. I’m really interested in how our personal and professional growth can merge, develop, and support each other. I’m currently in a non-clinical role with Kindred LTAC.

Overview: This presentation will focus on how personal growth can drive professional development. Professional development is often linked to completing new clinical education or leadership courses, learning new skills, and taking on new challenges. What are the benefits of focusing inward to learn more about our own individual needs? During this webinar, we’ll review, complete, and discuss different AOTA-supported worksheets to do a deeper dive into the connection between our individual growth and how it shows up in the professional world.
