Colorado House Bill 25‑1016, which is effective August 6th, 2025 empowers registered occupational therapists (OTRs) to directly recommend and prescribe durable medical equipment (DME)—such as adaptive devices, mobility aids, and therapeutic tools—without needing a physician’s prescription.

This new statute officially expands OTRs’ scope of practice under state regulation .
