Student Representative: Colorado Mesa University

Name: Kacey Doner, OTS

What do you love about OT?

I love the blend between science and creativity. This creates many different directions that can be taken with OT which presents endless opportunities to continue learning and advocating for individuals in the community. I love the client-centered approach to OT because we are able to help people be successful in activities that are meaningful to them.

How did you choose this profession?

After I graduated college, I worked as a ski, climbing, and mountain biking instructor and volunteered for an adaptive ski program. Empowering individuals in the outdoors and teaching them new skills was very rewarding. This guided me towards OT to learn additional skills to help individuals participate in meaningful activities and instill independence within their environment.

Why did you choose to become an OTAC student representative?

I grew up in Colorado, and I want to continue living here in the future. Being an OTAC student representative is a great way to build relationships and interact with OT practitioners throughout Colorado. I am excited to learn more about OT and the legislative process outside of the classroom!

What's your favorite thing to do in Colorado?

I love all the outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer! The easy access to trails and mountains allows me to enjoy trail running, biking, skiing, climbing, and camping all year! On a sunny day, you can always find me on the trails!
