Professional Development & Education Chair

Name: Julie Yaroni, MS, OTD, OTR/L

What do you love about OT?

I have been practicing as an occupational therapist for about 5 years now and fall in love with the career more and more each year. I love that we, as OTs, can have a positive impact on people’s lives and help them participate in the activities that are important to them. As a pediatric occupational therapist I love that I can help a child have a more independent future, learn how to communicate and engage with their environment, and support the parent-child relationship. Additionally, I love that I get to play all day long : ).

How did you choose this profession?

I first became interested in occupational therapy when I was 15 years old volunteering at a hypotherapy clinic. I loved how the occupational therapists I worked with considered all aspects of the child and the environment in order to help the child be successful and engaged in the activities. I will never forget the moment a client I was working with spoke her first words (“go”) because she was so excited for the horse to move forward and begin her session.

Why did you choose to become an OTAC board member?

I chose to become a member of the OTAC board, because I want to share my love for the profession with others. Through this position I hope to inspire, educate, and support fellow occupational therapists.

What's your favorite thing to do in Colorado?

I have only been in Colorado for about a year now and still have a lot to explore! So far I would say my favorite thing is to head out to the mountains for a hike!
