Evaluation of Social Interaction

Taught by Anne G. Fisher

An occupation-centered assessment of a person’s quality of social interaction.

The Evaluation of Social Interaction (ESI) is an observational assessment of a person’s quality of social interaction during natural social exchanges with typical social partners.

The Evaluation of Social Interaction is a valid and reliable assessment:

  • For clients 2½ years and above, including older adults.
  • Appropriate for people of any diagnosis (include well or at risk).

By the end of an ESI training course, participants will be able to:

  • Administer and score the ESI in a valid and reliable way.
  • Interpret ESI results, including computer-generate reports.
  • Write occupation-focused documentation using the ESI skill item taxonomy.
  • Document occupation-centered client goals.
  • Design occupation-centered interventions using ESI results.
  • Compare two ESI observation results to measure change over time.

Wednesday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
